I admit I was a bit MIA the last couple of days and I apologize. With the beginning of the year we have to deal with new projects and wrap up old ones so to say the least it has been a crazy week!
However I have been asked the question: “What is passive design?”
So what exactly is Passive Design?
Passive design is using the site, weather and materials to your advantage. It is everything that you can do that cost no more energy but improve the indoor environmental quality which is basically the indoor temperature.
Orientation is 80 % of passive design. The building should be orientated to the south if it is situated in the northern hemisphere and orientated north if situated in the southern hemisphere. Orientation, location and layout insure that indoor temperature is regulated.
